A devastating torrential rain lasting three days without respite has wreaked havoc in Natsinta village, located in the Jibia local government area of Katsina State, Nigeria. The relentless downpour resulted in the collapse of 250 houses, leaving residents in a state of distress and uncertainty.

Hon. Mustafa Yusuf, the Katsina State Member of the House of Assembly representing Jibia Local Government Area, swiftly visited the affected area on Saturday, August 17, 2024. He assured the impacted residents that the Assembly would work diligently to ensure immediate assistance from the state government for those who lost their homes.

Expressing his concern, Hon. Yusuf urged all stakeholders, including government officials, political leaders, and entrepreneurs, to contribute generously to support the affected individuals during this challenging time.

Mas'udu Lawal 'Sarkin Yashi', a resident of Natsinta village, attributed the disaster to the absence of proper drainage systems in the area. He highlighted that the disruption of a crucial drainage channel had exacerbated the impact of the heavy rainfall, leaving residents vulnerable to such calamities.

Councilor Shamsu Hassan, representing Kusa ward, emphasized the chaotic situation that has unfolded in the aftermath of the incident. Displaced residents are struggling to find shelter, compounding their existing hardships, particularly in a region already grappling with poverty and food insecurity.

Hausa Daily Post reported that, among those affected, Abdulrahman Ibrahim and Amina shared their harrowing experience of losing not only their homes but also essential belongings, further complicating their already challenging circumstances. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities, although a few individuals sustained injuries during the disaster.

Alhaji Usman Usman Nagoggo, the District Head of Dadadara, expressed deep concern over the widespread destruction and ensuing confusion among the villagers. He called upon government officials and other stakeholders to extend compassion and support to the affected residents while implementing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As the community of Natsinta village grapples with the aftermath of this natural disaster, the resilience and unity of its residents are being tested. Efforts to rebuild and rehabilitate the affected area should be underway, with a collective determination to overcome this adversity and emerge stronger as a community.
